This allows the user to run a high-performance profile while active, but save energy while inactive. IdleSaver: Hitting IdleSaver Enabled enables a power plan that Process Lasso will enact when the system goes idle. This setting is great for lower-end machines but might cause certain programs to behave unusually. SmartTrim: Pressing SmartTrim Enabled will allow Process Lasso to halt or deprioritize certain processes when performance thresholds are reached. You can read more about ProBalance on Bitsum's website. This will, in general, improve responsiveness and overall performance. This setting comes enabled by default and allows Process Lasso to dynamically adjust your CPU priorities with little to no performance overhead. ProBalance: Hitting ProBalance Enabled will start the ProBalance Algorithm. The first settings you'll want to consider enabling are as follows: Here we'll find some general functions, such as power settings for your PC or a toggle for multiple users. I'm thinking yes, stay with current setup, but wonder what others think? Running this setup, the CPU also generally draws a bit less power while gaming with the e-cores off.ProBalance can be best jumped into by having a look at the Main dropdown menu. Particularly when per thread, my setup is doing better on average on multi-core? It's not like many if any games are coming close to using 16 threads at a high utilization so there should be at least a couple p-core threads with bandwidth for background tasks if needed without impacting game performance.Jarrod's tech just did similar testing with 12700k on stock settings and got: With that setup I'm getting the following in CinebenchR23: I'm currently running 8 p-cores all at 5.1Ghz constant with ring clock of 4.7Ghz and AVX enabled, e-cores are manually disabled. They all come crawlin' back to Steam, because these proprietary launchers are a burden. I don't think I, or I'd imagine, a lot of gamers, would use Ubisoft Connect or Ubisoft accounts to game if we had a choice-it was part of the EA Origin/Games for Windows Live generation of publisher-exclusive launchers and digital storefronts primarily implemented for digital rights management. Whatever database maintenance justification Ubisoft has, it's a poor showing compared to competing digital distribution platforms, many of which have been around longer, presumably have more users, and do not do this. However you slice it, though, this is a customer-unfriendly practice, and an exhausting thing to see. I have reached out to Ubisoft for clarification, and will update this story if I hear back. It is not clear how long a Ubisoft account can remain inactive before receiving this notice of suspension. (Image credit: Ubisoft Support Twitter Account) "As we will be unable to recover the account once it has been closed, we strongly recommend only putting in the request if you are absolutely sure you would like to close your account." This page links to another dedicated to voluntarily closing one's Ubisoft account, and seems to operate by the same rules: a 30-day suspension before permanent deletion. You will be notified by email if we begin the process of closing your inactive account." Ubisoft has a support page titled " Closure of inactive Ubisoft accounts." The page first describes instances where the service clashes with local data privacy laws, then reads: "We may also close long-term inactive accounts to maintain our database. I was unable to find anything regarding account closure for inactivity in Ubisoft's US terms of use or its end user licence agreement, but the company does reserve the right to suspend or end services at any time. "We certainly do not want you to lose access to your games or account so if you have any difficulties logging in then please create a support case with us." "You can avoid the account closure by logging into your account within the 30 days (since receiving the email pictured) and selecting the Cancel Account Closure link contained in the email," Ubisoft Support wrote. Now, that sounds like a phishing scam, right? I and many commenters wondered that, looking at the original post, but less than a day later, Ubisoft's verified support account responded to the tweet, seemingly confirming the screenshotted email's legitimacy. The email provided a link to cancel the move. You can unlink your Ubisoft account from Steam at any time by going to your Ubisoft account settings.A piracy and anti-DRM focused Twitter account, PC_enjoyer, recently shared a screenshot of a Ubisoft support email telling the user that their Ubisoft account had been suspended for "inactivity," and would be "permanently closed" after 30 days.If you are having trouble linking your accounts, try restarting Steam.Make sure that you are logged in to the correct Ubisoft account. Here are some additional tips for linking your Ubisoft account to Steam: If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. You can verify this by going to your Steam profile and clicking on the “Linked Accounts” tab. Your Ubisoft account will now be linked to Steam.

However, in the real world most objects have convoluted surfaces that exhibit a diffuse reflection, with the incident light being reflected in all directions. When surface imperfections are smaller than the wavelength of the incident light (as in the case of a mirror), virtually all of the light is reflected equally. The amount of light reflected by an object, and how it is reflected, is highly dependent upon the degree of smoothness or texture of the surface. The reflected light produces a mirror image. Regardless of whether light is acting as particles or waves, the result of reflection is the same. Because the particles are so small, they travel very close together (virtually side by side) and bounce from different points, so their order is reversed by the reflection process, producing a mirror image. The best surfaces for reflecting light are very smooth, such as a glass mirror or polished metal, although almost all surfaces will reflect light to some degree.Īccording to particle theory, which differs in some important details from the wave concept, light arrives at the mirror in the form of a stream of tiny particles, termed photons, which bounce away from the surface upon impact. It is important to note that the light is not separated into its component colors because it is not being “bent” or refracted, and all wavelengths are being reflected at equal angles. This concept is often termed the Law of Reflection. Thus, the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection for visible light as well as for all other wavelengths of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum. Visible white light that is directed onto the surface of a mirror at an angle (incident) is reflected back into space by the mirror surface at another angle (reflected) that is equal to the incident angle, as presented for the action of a beam of light from a flashlight on a smooth, flat mirror in Figure 2. The incoming light wave is referred to as an incident wave, and the wave that is bounced away from the surface is termed the reflected wave. However, it wasn’t until a millennium and a half later that the Arab scientist Alhazen proposed a law describing exactly what happens to a light ray when it strikes a smooth surface and then bounces off into space. Some of the earliest accounts of light reflection originate from the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid, who conducted a series of experiments around 300 BC, and appears to have had a good understanding of how light is reflected. We also had success in adjusting elements like brightness, contrast, colour grading, and gamma. And as OpenShot is open-source, there are none of the frustrating ads, watermarks, or promotions for paid upgrades that you find in most free video editing software. We appreciated the handy range of customisable title-card templates, too.Īll the usual options to adjust and enhance your video, including crop, trim, rotate, and resize, worked well for us in practice. We especially loved how you can stack an unlimited number of layers in your video, be they soundtracks, overlapping videos, or custom images. When we reviewed it, we found its minimalist drag-and-drop layer-based interface very easy to use, making it our top choice for beginners overall. Here, you're getting the full product for free, and there's a volunteer army of developers constantly working to improve it, at no cost to you. Most free video editing software is created, ultimately, to tempt you into buying a paid version. The best beginner free video editing software But for those who won't mind the branded ACDSee elements to their finished, exported vid, there are a load of awesome, and quite professional-level, editing tools available here. Of course, this will be anathema for some of you. Only then do you need to sign up, and then the video will play with a ACDSee intro and outro. The string, if you can call it that, comes when you want to export your video. Then of course there's the old trick of offering a few tools to the free user, and then dangling other awesome tools behind a paid-for subscription.ĪCDSee Luxea Video Editor is one of the best free video editing softwares out there that offers a raft of great video editing tools – the ones that you'll want to use – with no strings attached. You never know what you're going to get with the best free video editing software out there, and if you've looked through the entries on this page, you'll see that some tools are available for some platforms, but not others. The best amateur free video editing software However, there is a brilliant set of features built in to help you learn, including around 40 videos to teach you the basics. It is still easy to navigate but feels a bit clunkier. The interface has changed, and is no longer reminiscent of Adobe's Premiere Pro, but is darker and more imposing. The Pro version unlocks everything at $15.99/£15.99 a month, and the Creator version unlocks fewer features at $9.99/£9.99 a month. If you're willing to pay, you can get rid of the watermarks. This isn't unusual, of course, but it does mean pros won't view this software as the viable option it once was, and Da Vinci Resolve is the only real free option for professional videographers. A huge amount of the effects are now watermarked if you are on the free version, across transitions, animation, colour grading and more. The rebrand to Hitfilm includes the introduction of two subscription tiers that, as you'd expect, mean the free version isn't quite all-singing, all dancing, and no-longer a genuine alternative to other paid-for tools. But things have changed somewhat and this software has fallen down our list from number two. The best basic free video editing softwareĪnother good choice for professional video editors is Hitfilm (previously Hitfilm Express), which, before the recent update, we would have described as the Swiss Army knife of free video editing software. To learn more, see our full DaVinci Resolve review. If that's you, we'd suggest instead looking at entries 4 to 8 on our list. That said, while that interface is quite straightforward to use for anyone with editing experience, it would be quite a challenge for beginners to learn. All that meant that we didn’t need to ‘do an Adobe’ by jumping around loads of programs to get our perfect video we could do it all within the one interface. We also loved its smart video stabilisation tool, for when you’ve got a shaky shot, and the built-in audio mixing, VFX and title-card-building modes also functioned brilliantly. In our review, we found its colour grading options to be second to none, giving us the ability to fully control the look of our videos. Despite being free, this is a feature-packed powerhouse and really gives paid tools a run for their money in terms of versatility and usefulness. DaVinci Resolve is made by Blackmagic Design, which also makes a popular family of video cameras, so you know it’s designed for filmmakers. The Vario mounts supplied allow you to align your screen(s) with extreme precision and can accommodate 100×100 mm / 75 x 75 mm VESA connections (depending on the option you choose on the product page). This technology has been rapidly embraced by sim racers because they make it so much easier to align your triples. With this feature, you can easily align your monitors with each other, ensuring a perfect viewing experience. One of the key features of this product is Sim Lab’s VARIO™ Vesa Adapters, which allow for micro-adjustments of your monitors up, down, left, and right. This thing really raises the “bar” (if there is a bar set monitor mounts?). This is the latest stand to come from Sim Lab, the VARIO™ Triple monitor mount, a top-of-the-line product that is the result of years of research and development. That is, surprisingly, enough to hand a G9 on (it has a special bracket that the VESA mount bolts to).Īnyway, in today’s post, we’ll look at some of the more popular monitor stand options, which all come from our usual suppliers: Sim-Lab, Racing Cockpits, and Pro-Sim Rig gear from RaceAnywhere. Note that the monitor mount that came with my Sim-Dynamics rig is very simple: a few brackets and a single horizontal section of 40×40 aluminum profile. I have my G9 85cms away from my eyes which gives enormous scope for a good FOV (field of view) despite it “only” being a 49″ monitor rather than a triple configuration. My rig needs a tidy but I’m always testing new gear! Anyway – look how close my G9 is to me. Monitor as close as possible to driver for the best FOV.There are really only two variables to take into account with any monitor setup for a racing sim: Personally, I’ve always preferred mounting the monitor directly onto my sim racing cockpit. With that said, here are some great choices on the market to suit different types of setups. It’s essential to make sure that whatever stand you choose can cater to the sizes of your screens. There are lots to choose from though so please read on… The VARIO™ Triple monitor mount from Sim-Lab makes it easy to perfectly align your monitors and enjoy your triple screen setup thanks to Sim-Lab’s game-changing Vario Vesa MountsĬhoosing the right monitor stand is going to be a decision that will vary a lot depending on your rig and room, and it’s something that I would put a reasonable amount of thought into during the planning stages. Without wanting to spoil the point of the article, the TL DR: If you’re a details person and you really want to get the best possible alignment for your triple monitors, the stand below is the stand(alone) to have. They’re either standalone or they’ll mount to your rig (especially if your rig is made from 8020/40 profile). Monitor mounts come in several shapes and sizes, but in general, they’re designed to stand over your rig and allow you to adjust the height, spacing, and angle of your monitors. Once you’ve chosen a good set of monitors for your sim racing rig, how are you going to mount them? If you race at a desk, this is likely something you won’t need to think about at all, but if you have a standalone rig, you’re going to need a single or triple monitor stand. Some songs produced in Reason 2.5 could not be loaded in Reason 3.0 or 3.0.3. Unfortunately there were some problems with this handling, which we have now taken care of. In Reason 3.0 we made MIDI import stricter and also changed song loading so that bad data was skipped instead of showing the alert. Saving this bad data to a song made that song unloadable, causing a "Bad Format" alert. This could for example be bad controller data outside the sequencer timeline. The MIDI import functionality in Reason 2.5 accepted some MIDI file data that the Reason sequencer could not handle. This happened only when exporting audio as everything sounded fine when listening to Reason directly or running Reason in a ReWire host. This was most likely to appear when using certain Scream settings. There was an issue in Reason 3.0.3 (on Windows) that could cause weird sounds when exporting a song or loop to an audio file. These are the issues fixed in the 3.0.4 update: Fixed some name label bugs in template songs. Fixed a bug where the Master Section’s Insert FX would be moved when moving a connected device to another position in the rack. Authorizer will no longer request downloading of license data when it’s not necessary. Fixed a bug where bounced samples defaulted to 0% Loop. Fixed a bug in NN-XT when doing Set Root Notes From Pitch Detection. Fixed resource/memory leak when browsing in locations with lots of items. Fixed a bug that caused audio glitches in Neptune’s Live Mode. Stopping playback now cuts hanging notes in Rack Extension devices. Fixed crash bug when exporting song containing a placeholder device. Dropped support for 22,050 Hz sample rate on playback and export. Rack Extensions now respond to sample rate changes in the ReWire host. Default browse locations now work as in Reason 6.0.2. Fixed Combi patch backwards compatibility that was broken in 6.5.0 and 6.5.1. Something really interesting to have a real studio on our Mac.(I edited out the Windows-specific changes) On the other hand, the integration with Record (the other music software developed by the same company) guarantees a professional finish for any project without major problems. Reason has a complete sequencer that can automate any parameter of any module, and it's compatible with the ReWire protocol (that allows us to communicate with another sequencer or sound studio). Furthermore, modifying any sound by means of reverbs, delays, vocoders, filters, compressors and equalizers will be more than simple thanks to its intuitive menus. Reason will also work perfectly with any physical device like keyboards or MIDI controllers, for this purpose it includes several communication standards that guarantee that it will be compatible with the M-Audio, Akai and Doepfer controllers, to name a few. Reason is also compatible with various proprietary or very specific formats, as is the case of REX and FX2 files, even though it is possible to use WAV files by means of the Redrum rhythm box. As well as dozens of samples like the NN-XT or NN-19. Create incredible music from your MacĪmong the synthesizers, we'll find Thor, Subtractor, and Mälstrom among others. Reason's interface is a virtual representation of what sequencers and synthesizers are really like, this means, we'll see the buttons, potentiometers, LEDs and other electronic elements on our screen. Thanks to this application, we'll have a really simple interface and the vast majority of options that are usually available in these cases. Reason is a program that has been developed for those musicians that still like to create, sequence and edit music by means of real synthesizers, but that know that virtual and digital music is here to stay. |
